  1. What did you learn this week?
    • The big topics our class learned this week were the 5E Model and Ecology. The 5E Model is a series of steps used to help students learn efficiently, which uses 5 steps/words, all starting with the letter E. Those steps/words are Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate. During our lab section, as a group, we created a summary (Figure 1) and a table (Figure 2) of the 5 Es. We then presented our slideshow to the class and explained our view on the 5E Model. Switching gears to learning about Ecology, we learned a lot about the relationships between organisms, including biomes, environments, habitats, food webs, and food chains.
  2. Are you able to relate what you learned to what you already knew?
    • I could not relate the 5E Model to what I already knew because I had not heard of it before this class. However, I can relate what I learned about Ecology to what I already knew because I learned about this in middle school. During the lab and lecture sections, my class and I learned about the basic fundamentals of ecology. For instance, I remember learning about biomes in middle school and food chains (and webs) in elementary school.
  3. What are new or remaining questions?
    • Some remaining questions I have are: how can I use the 5E in other subjects, and how can I present it so students will get excited to use it? These questions challenge me to become a better teacher of diverse learners.
