  1. What did you learn this week?
    • After reflecting on this week's lab and lecture content, I learned many new concepts as well as refreshed on familiar past learnings. For starters, we checked our fast plant, and to our surprise, it did not grow very much (Figure 1). Next, we did an activity where we created an ecosystem with our table groups to help us understand biomes and environments better. We also learned about the importance of pollination. During our lab section, we took a bee on a stick and brushed it over the flowers to depict the process of pollination (Figure 2). We also did two more activities during our lab section, where we discussed the importance of the 10% Rule and sea turtles along with their common dangers. During the lecture, we got a quick look at genetic material with a few big ideas.
  2. Are you able to relate what you learned to what you already knew?
    • Something I was able to relate to what I already knew was the dangers sea turtles are put into (natural and human dangers). I did my NGSS Unit Assignment based on sea turtles, which led me to research more about them. I found several websites and videos explaining the natural dangers (such as predators eating sea turtles) and human dangers (effects of bright lights) that come with the life cycle of sea turtles.
  3. Which parts did you find clear and which were confusing?
    • Some parts I found clear in our genetic materials were the concepts of cells and chromosomes. I remember learning about them in middle school, so it was a nice refresher. The other parts I found confusing were DNA, RNA, and the difference between them. This was difficult for me to understand because of the need to memorize the specific letters in each sequence.

  1. Hi Addy,
I also found DNA and RNA confusing. I understood some parts, but the parts about the differences in specific letters were hard since they share some of the same. I think that activity with pollination was pretty cool, I didn't realize that we could do something like that ourselves in an experimental form. It was cool to see it with my own eyes.
