  1. What did you learn this week?
    • At the start of class, my group and I checked on our fast plant, and it seemed like it did not grow very much (Figure 1), but we observed another group's fast plant again this week (Figure 2). During the lab section this week, we reviewed our Baby Face Lab, DNA sequencing, acquired and inherited traits, and DNA mutation. Lastly, during our lab, we did a mutation activity, which helped me understand the difference between the different points of mutations (insertion, deletion, and substitution) (Figure 3). During our lecture section this week, we were introduced to the topic of Natural Selection. In the lecture, we learned how natural selection works, the causes of natural selection, and the basic ideas of natural selection.
  2. Are you able to relate what you learned to what you already knew?
    • I remember talking about acquired and inherited traits in middle school, which I can relate to what I already knew. However, when discussing examples, I never thought about plants having acquired and inherited traits, which was something I found interesting. One other thing I remember talking about when I was in high school Biology was Natural Selection.
  3. Which parts did you find clear and which were confusing?
    • Overall, the topic of Natural Selection seemed pretty clear to me. I understood how it works and what natural selection consists of. The only thing I found confusing, at first, was the difference between "Natural Selection" and "The Survival of the Fittest." I wonder if these two concepts have anything to do with one another.
