- What did you learn this week?
- This week, we checked on our fast plants, which were at the end of their life cycle (Figure 1). During class, we learned more about evolution and natural selection, doing some new activities. We did a "Prey Bean" activity that represented natural selection throughout generations (Figure 2). We later found that predators inherit traits that help them catch prey (Figure 3). At the end of the week, during our lecture section, we took Exam 3, which was nice to have a small reflection of the course material.
- Are you able to relate what you learned to what you already knew?
- I have learned many of these concepts before, but it was nice to get a refresher from a teacher's perspective (how to teach it). For instance, I liked to learn about natural selection, but helping students understand how it works and what effects it has on the environment was interesting to note.
- Which parts did you find clear and which were confusing
- Some parts I found clear were the concepts of evolution and how natural selection plays a part in that. Some things I found confusing were the Disciplinary Core Ideas of Life Science and the Component Core Ideas for Life Science. Overall, the concept of evolution is really interesting to me and I cannot wait to incorporate it in my classroom.
